Overview
Osteoporosis is a disease characterised by both a reduction in bone mass, i.e. the amount of bone, and an alteration of its architecture, i.e. its quality. This leads to increased bone fragility, exposing it to a higher risk of fractures. Among the skeletal segments affected by osteoporosis is the spinal column, which can suffer from vertebra slippage, thus requiring external support, such as a corset.
Goals
- Be aware of the various types of existing orthopaedic corsets
- Gain practical knowledge about wearing orthopaedic corsets for osteoporosis
- Know the clinic and epidemiology of osteoporosis
- Understand the correct spinal orthosis prescription for the patient
- Interact with the various professionals taking care of the osteoporotic patient
