Overview

This course aims to increase the participants’ knowledge about the prescription and use of prosthetic limbs, both upper and lower. During the day, all existing types of external prosthesis will be assessed, starting with traditional prostheses and ending with the latest generation of electronic components (using robotic systems).

Particular focus will be given to the course of rehabilitation that amputee patients face, which is of fundamental importance for acceptance and use of the final prosthesis. This will be achieved through interaction between the various professionals in contact with the patient: orthopaedic surgeon, physiatrist, physiotherapist and orthopaedic technician.

Goals

  • Learn about the various types of lower limb prostheses.
  • Understand the course of prescription/rehabilitation for amputee patients.
  • Know how to assess amputee patients in their biopsychosocial context.
  • Discuss the importance of the professional team in the approach to amputee patients.
  • Assess the gait of patients with an external lower limb prosthesis.
  • Learn about the technological evolution of upper limb prostheses.
